Leafs deal Kadri to Avs for Barrie, Kerfoot
Two veterans left handed the only NHL teams they’ve played for, since the Colorado Avalanche acquired forward Nazem Kadri on Monday in a deal that sent defenseman Tyson Barrie into the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Colorado also picked up a 2020 draft pick and defenseman Calle Rosen . Toronto also got ahead Alex Kerfoot and a 2020 sixth-round choice. Additionally the Avalanche are keeping half of the 5.5 million cap hit on the final season of Barrie’s contract.
Kadri carries a cap hit of $4.5 million through each of the next three seasons as part of a six-year, $27 million deal he signed up in April 2016, according to capfriendly.com.
Kadri, 28, played 10 seasons in Toronto, compiling 161 goals and 196 assists in 561 games.
„Nazem is an established goal scorer and a ferocious competitor who performs in most scenarios,“ Avalanche general manager Joe Sakic said in a statement. „He’s under contract for another three seasons and will immediately fit right in as our second-line centre and enhance our scoring depth.
Last season, he produced 16 goals and 28 assists in 73 games. However, he was suspended for the rest of the first round of the playoffs after cross-checking the Boston Bruins‘ Jake DeBrusk through Game 2. Toronto ended up being removed in Game 7 of that series.
It was the spring in a row in. Back in April 2018, Kadri obtained a three-game ban for boarding Boston’s Tommy Wingels in Game 1 of a first-round series. Just like the year, the Maple Leafs lost in seven matches to the Bruins.
27, barrie, spent eight seasons with the Avalanche, setting 75 goals and 232 assists up. He had 45 assists and 14 goals last season.
„We want to thank Tyson for he has performed both on and off the ice to the Avalanche business,“ Sakic said. „He certainly made an impact not just with his drama but with his charitable work in the area community. …
„With the arrival and emergence of Samuel Girard and Cale Makar, in addition to the recent draft pick of Bowen Byram, we believed it was time to move in this course with Tyson’s contract expiring the summertime.“
Kerfoot, 24, has played 157 NHL games, all in the previous two seasons with the Avalanche. He had 19 goals and 24 assists as a rookie in 2017-18, then 15 goals and 27 assists in 2018-19.
Rosen, 25, appeared in four games to the Maple Leafs each of the past two seasons. He has one assist and one NHL goal.
